The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) hosted a jewelry career fair in Carlsbad, California on October 5th that included 250 job seekers, professionals at every career stage and 27 companies on hand looking to fill positions. Not only were there hiring opportunities but also one-on-one career coaching and panel discussions with industry executives, entrepreneurs, and celebrity stylists and designers. Panelists included celebrity stylist George Blodwell, jewelry designers Erica Courtney and Martin Katz, Discovery Channel personality Jordan Tabach-Bank and Luxury Brand Group CEO Frank Proctor. Among the companies recruiting new employees were Montblanc, Tiffany & Co. and Zale Corporation. GIA president and CEO Donna Baker said, “A vibrant industry like ours can grow and thrive, even in challenging times. In light of the job numbers released today, it’s wonderful to see how many diverse opportunities the gem and jewelry business provides for talented, passionate professionals.” The success of the fair and diversity of participants indicates a bright future for the business of bling.
