October Opals & Tourmaline – A Birthstone History

By   /   October 10, 2016  /   No Comments

October is one of the few lucky months with two beautiful birthstones associated with it. Opal, with its stunning array of colors and opalescence effect, and pink tourmaline with its bright, stunning color make a wonderful month for those born in October. Beverly Loan Company, a luxury pawnshop in the heart of Beverly Hills, has expertise on both of these rare and unique birthstones.

Opal could have been derived from a number of terms, including words from Sanskrit or Roman, or maybe even the wife of Saturn, the goddess of fertility “Ops”. Tourmaline means “something out of the Earth” in Singhalese.

Opals have long been associated with love and passion and are used as design centerpieces from jewelers like Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., and Cartier. The multi-colored gemstone is also thought to amplify your feelings and boost confidence. Pink tourmaline is similar as it is regularity identified with love, respect and humanitarianism. Another stone that is loved by jewelers, it is sometimes called the “peace stone”.
