If you’re looking for a rare collectible item, the Gold and Silver Trading Company on Union Ave may have exactly what you’re looking for. But that’s not all, you can find everything from lawn mowers and tools, to rare coin’s and sports memorabilia.

“Basically, anything we think is cool we will buy it,” said Kameron Kepharte, owner.

It’s not easy finding unique items. Kepharte goes to garage sales, swap meets and estate sales.

“It’s really a lot of work to obtain unique items, most of the time they don’t just walk in the door, though it has happened,” said Kepharte.

That’s exactly what happened with an authenticated document signed by President Abraham Lincoln that they are extremely proud of.

“It’s one of the stores prized possessions, PSA, the ones who authenticated it, said it’s worth anywhere between $20,000 to $50,000,” said Kepharte.

They also specialize in military history.

“Anything Civil War, World War I, World War II, we buy it,” said Kepharte.

But they recently bought something that they just couldn’t sell.

“It’s an awesome piece that has a as historical significance.” said Kepharte.

“It’s a a burial flag for a World War II soldier named   Ulysses V. Nutt.

“When a military veteran passes away, surviving family is provided with the burial flag. Paying respect to that veteran’s service. It’s a momento that the family can have,” said Dick Taylor, Kern County veterans service department.

It’s unknown how this flag ended up at a garage sale, but Kepharte knows its true value.
